  • There is no difference in ranking for long tail keywords compared to short tail keywords. The same rules and principles apply. Here's some tips and tricks for you.

Firstly ensure that your keyword is in the first sentence of your post.

Make sure you have your Header 1,2, and 3 tags have your keyword in them.

Make sure you your "meta description" includes your keyword. If you are using wordpress as your blogging platform and it's self hosted then I would recommend installing the "all in one seo" plugin OR the "platinum seo" plug in. Both are free.

Next your keyword density should range from 1-4%. Don't go over the 4% as the search engines can see this as spamming. Don't go under 1% as this will be to low.

I would recommend seo pressor if you are self hosting your blog with wordpress. This costs $97 but makes your on page seo a breeze.

If you are checking your keyword density manually, then follow this simple formula: For every 100 words you write, make sure your keyword is included 1-4 times :)

Make sure you have your keyword in the last sentence.

Yes you are right as well in your question, bolding, italicizing or underlining your keywords can help with your on page seo. Don't go overboard though, make it look natural.

Also if you add any images to your post/s make sure you set the "alt tag" to your keyword.

That is a strong foundation for your on page seo.
Here is a method I have used with fantastic results in the past.

Pick a niche (any niche). Find the top paying CPC keywords using the Google adwords tool. Write articles about these keywords (embedding other keywords in there as well). But focus first and foremost on the content and make it good content. I aim for 800-1000 words (yes bigger than normal).

Use three ad blocks through the article and ensure colours match the site exactly.

Here is a big tip - Offer NO navigation options on the page - This means a standalone page and not a blog. There should only be one way the user can exit the page (by clicking a link).

Of course you may require terms of service links, disclaimer, etc - Have those at the bottom of the page as you normally would.

Optimize the page for the big keyword (one article per keyword). e.g. Put it in the title, etc.

Now find the lowest competition keywords for that niche (using market samurai, etc).

Create a squeeze page and offer people free information on your niche and include a sample (create one more sample article with great information).

Get them to opt-in to your email list and then have auto responder messages go out each day sending them to one of your articles.

You know have a visitor who will arrive on the page with a very high paying keyword (because you have optimized the page for that keyword).
-It all depends on the niche.
